The Tree Of Idleness/Perp Walk – 310511

Sponsored by the letter D.

Another successful day at the coalface!

Mixed/mastered …IDLENESS and PERP… successfully in CE5, Cubase VST/24 and AA3. …IDLENESS sounds particularly classy, while PERP… sounds way more rockin’ and denser than I’d expected originally. Yowza!

Break for a few days, and then more work!

Rough mixing – 050511

Sponsored by the letter R.

Did very rough MP3 mixes of the following tracks:-

  1. A Truth You Can Happily Accept
  2. Braille For The Feet (sadly, this track ain’t going to make the final cut – destined for B-side “glory”)
  3. Flood Plain
  4. Fly Me To Hecuba
  5. Future Plans For Yesterday
  6. Hosanna In The Hiace
  7. King Fidget
  8. No Position To Argue
  9. On The Lake Beneath The Shoreline
  10. People Who Look Like Other People
  11. Perp Walk

Five more to do after that over the course of the weekend. Then it’s time to make me minds up…;-)

Perp Walk – 220411

Sponsored by the letter A.

Edited the guitar parts in CE5. Quite a bit of tweaking involved but things sounds fine (if suitably rough and ready) now.

While I developed a taste for tweaking (as it were), I revisited some of the bass parts I’d worked on yesterday and, well, tweaked them. Things sound much tighter now.

Track done. Time to move on…

Perp Walk – 210411

Sponsored by the letter W and no letter at all.

Edited the bass parts in CE5. Four parts in all and reasonably easy to edit. Track rocks like Hell.

Hope to get to the guitar parts tomorrow.

The Tree Of Idleness/Perp Walk – 030411

Sponsored by the letter R.

Back in the saddle (as it were), all refreshed after a short break from my travails

Did audio cleanup on the relevant wavs in Cool Edit Pro. More to do tomorrow and Tuesday. With a bit of luck I’ll be finished with the cleanup this week, and then I can press on with editing.

Perp Walk/A Truth You Can Happily Accept – 170311

Sponsored by the letter E.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all…

PERP WALK

Recorded the previously-programmed JV-880 (JP Strings) and D-110 (Recorder) MIDI parts to audio in CE5, using the Behringer mixer and the Phonic Firefly. The track is now ready for audio clean-up and editing.

…TRUTH…

Programmed 4 MIDI parts off the JV-880 (Arasian Morn) and recorded them to audio as above.

Also programmed 1 MIDI part off the D-110 (Windbells) and recorded it to audio.

For some mad reason, I recorded the metronome to audio as well. No particular reason why – maybe I’ll drop it in and out of the mix (rather like King Tubby’s signature “tone” – anyone who knows what I’m talking about will know what I’m talking about).

Finally I programmed a section using my old favourite VST plugin – Majken’s Chimera (the Ultraslow voice). For some odd reason, when I open up the voices in Majken’s Chimera for editing, I can neither move the editing screen around nor close it down. So in order not have a stonking great big screen blocking my view, I had to record the section to audio and then delete the plugin altogether. Not what I’d normally like to do, but since I was just holding down one note, it’d be no biggy to recreate if necessary.

That’s enough for one morning, I think…

Fly Me To Hecuba/Perp Walk – 020311

Sponsored by the letter C.

Another day, another toy…

*Not* going to smash my Telecaster through the television screen...

…HECUBA

Recorded 4 similar guitar parts on the Tascam 2488 using my Fender Telecaster and the Pod 2.0. Nice simple arpeggios (is that the correct plural form?). Should edit out nicely.

PERP WALK

Recorded 8 crunchy Tele parts. Sounds really good. I may have to edit the MIDI parts to fit around the guitar parts, but that’s not a problem.

Wasn’t expecting to do two tracks in one day. Well pleased!  But getting ahead of myself, perhaps?

More work tomorrow…

djp

Perp Walk – 280211

Sponsored by the letter A.

Programmed 2 parts off for the D-110 (Recorder) in CE5. Also recorded an extra MIDI track for modulating the 2 Recorder parts.

More programming required, but I have enough shape on the track for the purpose of recording guitar parts later in the week.

Perp Walk – 250211

Sponsored by the letters V and W.

Re-arranged the bass parts in CE5 and I think I now have a fairly cohesive arrangement in place.

Programmed three parts of the JP-8 Strings voice off the JV-880. Sounds pretty good and new-wavey. More work required on the synths over the weekend.

And in other news – off up to see Peter Fitzpatrick in his studio tomorrow a.m. Spot of backing vocals, doncha know…?;-)

On The Lake Beneath The Shoreline/Fly Me To Hecuba/Perp Walk

Sponsored by the letter S.

…LAKE…

Programmed two solo sections in  CE5, using the 4Front Rhodes VST plugin. Chucked a bit of tremolo on top and things now sound pretty good.

Attempted to sort out the Strat solo for the middle section. I had 6 working parts to work with (a seventh part was just buzzing). I started sliding the various parts around and, completely by accident, came up with a solo that sounds reasonably accurate. The finished version resembles, in no way, what it was I was attempting to achieve. So that’s alright then…;-)

The track sounds much better now, but probably won’t make the album. It depends on what the competition is like…

…HECUBA…

This track will  definitely make the cut. Sounds wonderful, even in unfinished form. Put together a rough mix for recording guitar parts next week.

…PERP…

Started re-arranging the various bass parts. Nearly there but not quite. More work required tomorrow.

Regards,

djp

The biography of an album from conception to release, as you might say.
