Another happy day in the gulag!
Mixed/mastered both …WEATHER and HOSANNA… in CE5. Cubase VST/24 and AA3. Couldn’t have gone more smoothly if both tasks had been smothered in pure Irish creamery butter, with an extra layer of whipping cream for added smoothness. Added a few slight dub elements to both mixes and did a little bit of audio slidearound, but not much effort required. Both mixes are very, very satisfactory.
I’m so delighted to get these two key album tracks sorted so easily. Why wasn’t last week like this…?

Finished off the rough mixes:-
Had a minor panic when I discovered that although I had completed editing …IDLENESS, I hadn’t actually saved my work properly, so I had to do an emergency edit. Luckily it was a quick and straightforward task. The track sounds particularly fine, especially towards the end – spine-tingling
I also decided to do a quick re-edit to …FIDGET. One of the guitar parts was annoying me, so I found a neat little workaround that saves the day. Huzzah!
On a quick tot-up, I have about an hour of music (honestly didn’t think it was that much…) but taking out the tracks that aren’t going to make the final cut, I’m probably going to end up in the mid-50s. I’ve no problem with that.
Going to take a bit of a rest now. Off to NYC next week for a few days. Recharge the batteries an’ting…

I was able to devote a bit more time to editing today, so I got the all the guitar and bass parts edited in CE5. Luckily, they were played pretty well (by my poor standards), so the most I really had to do was slide some audio around and do a few little cuts and snips. Everything sounds pretty damn fine now!
Time to move on to the next track…

Did audio cleanup on the wavs in Cool Edit Pro. Tedious work to be sure, but the quicker I get through this part of the process, the quicker I can proceed to the editing stage.
Roadtrip tomorrow and Friday. Catch youze later…

Time to welcome the return of an old friend…
My good old Rickenbacker 360 – still can’t play it, but I can squeeze some nice sounds out of it with a bit of trickery…
Recorded 10 different parts in a variety of “styles” (this term is used advisedly) on the Tascam 2488 using the Pod 2.0. The various bits and pieces should edit together quite nicely.
This track is really coming on a storm. Looking forward to the finished product.

Programmed two further VST plugin parts in CE5, to wit, Gargoyle (Horror Cat) and MinimogueVA (Emerson’s Tarkus).
Job done. Time to move on…

Been busy for the past few days on “real life” issues, but now I am ready to re-commence…
Spent a while programming VST plugins in CE5 to “sit on top of” the bass parts. For those of you interested in such trivia (that means you, Scott Brookman…), the plugins and voices used were:- Redium (Sinecrack), Spook Keys (Whistling), Prologue (Xanadu) and Cosmo Girl 2 (The Cosmo Girl).
The idea is that each plugin part will tie in with a particular bass part and will appear wherever that particular bass part appears in the track. There are 6 bass parts in the track, so that means I have another 2 plugin parts to program before the track is finished. Work for tomorrow.
Track sounds pretty good thus far.

Edited my existing beat parts in CE5 and programmed some additional percussive elements.
That is all…
